Personal Childhood Web

The personal childhood web is a page dedicated to a few special people who influenced my childhood by nurturing and caring about me.

                                            My Mother

My mother has always been there for me when I needed her to help with any kind of problem. She has helped me so much throughout my life. She was not only my mother but my friend to. She worked hard to provide for my sister and I to have what we needed in life. I will never be able to thank her enough. She had taught me the meaning of family and love and even though she is not her with me anymore I know she is watching over me in Heaven.

                                              Kerry Harper
                                 My Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Harper was my Kindergarten teacher. I remember her like it was yesterday. She was so nurturing and caring. I remember on my first day I was so scared she took me from my mother's arms and told me its going to be ok. We are going to have lots of fun in Kindergarten. She taught me so much. Even till this day she stills remembers me and speaks every time I see her out. I will never forgot her.

                                       My Aunt & Uncle

My aunt Beatrice and uncle Gary were two special people that were a big influence in my life. We all lived on the same street. Every day after school I would stay with them as my mom would work two jobs to support my sister and I. I remember always getting snacks and going skating on Fridays. Now, my 5 year old daughter loves to be with them also. I am so proud to call them my aunt and uncle.

                                         My Grandpa

My Grandpa was one of the few special people in my life growing up I spent a lot of time with him since he did live next door. My grandfather, Jesse Crenshaw, spoiled me rotten. If I ask for anything he would say "Here you go sweetheart". He taught me to ride a go cart that I wrecked on his front porch, and when I got older he taught me how to grow my own garden. He always made me feel like I could do anything, with a little knowledge and practice.  He passed away in April 2014 and I have missed him everyday since then.

This is one of my favorite quotes by Dr. Seuss.

Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes is one of my favorite books. Since I first heard the story of Pete the Cat and his white shoes I have absolutely adored it. Without missing a beat, Pete the Cat teaches young children that no matter what happens, they just have to keep going. I can not imagine a better book to teach children about resilience than this one. Not only is this book filled with wonderful images, rhythm, and a wonderful message, it's also just a fun read! I think that, as teachers, we often can look too deep into stories and sometimes forget that although it is important to help children learn from stories, it is also important to remember that children are not going to learn anything if they aren't interested in it. Pete the cat does a wonderful job of capturing the interest of the reader and keeping it until the very last page. The book is also one of my favorites because it uses simple, yet different language. Saying things such as "Goodness, no!" or "It's all good" are simple and easy to understand, but are phrases that children may not hear quite so often. This book could also be used to help children learn colors, or for cause and effect. All in all, this book is one of my favorites and will definitely be one that I keep around.
